Rossi and Yamaha M1

Rossi using 2008 & 2009 Yamaha M1 bikes for Jerez analysis

Wednesday, 26 November 2008

Second on the timesheet on day one in Jerez, MotoGP World Champion clocks his fastest time with latest prototype.

Valentino Rossi aboard the prototype 2009 M1

Chilly conditions failed to put Valentino Rossi´s progress on ice at Jerez, with the 2008 MotoGP World Champion feeling ever-more-comfortable on the 2009 Yamaha M1 prototype. The Italian tested the bike for the second time on Wednesday afternoon, braving the cold conditions to work with the machine in a three-hour stint.

The Italian was second on the timesheet behind Dani Pedrosa and, like his Repsol Honda rival, was using both the latest machinery and the model used at the end of the 2008 season. Particularly pleasing for Rossi was the fact that his quickest time of 1´40.135 came with the 2009 bike.

`I am happy about this first day because my performance has been good from the beginning and I have been fast all day,´ said Rossi after his 1:30pm-onwards session. `Unfortunately it´s been quite cold and there were only three hours when it was possible to go fast, but we were able to get quite a lot of work done in this short space of time.

`We have tried some different things on the old 2008 bike and we were able to make some improvements, then we also tested several new things on the prototype bike, and I am happy because I did my fastest lap with this bike.´

Rossi has far less rubber at his disposal than before as a consequence of the new single-tyre rule, but was happy with the eight tyres available. Two front and two rear specifications, provided in duplicate, were nonetheless to the reigning titlist´s liking.

`Bridgestone have brought good tyres here; so far I don´t see any problems with the new rule and it seems they´re doing a good job. They have also resurfaced the track and it has made a big difference; they have got rid of all the bumps and like this it´s great fun to ride around. I think we will be able to go faster now,´ concluded the 29 year-old.

Titanium dioxide to degrade pentachlorophenol

Pentachlorophenol is a phenolic compound that was chlorinated. Pentachlorophenol very toxic for our breath, cause dermatitis on skin and more toxic than inorganic solvent.

Pentachlorophenol waste almost dissolvable in water so degradation process is very hard. Some ways have been done to solve biological waste problem, but not efficient enough. For example, active carbon just involve pollutant absorption without decomposition process. Chemical oxidation process can’t decomposition all of organic compound be carbon dioxide and water, and have been used in high concentration waste.

Many century ago, scientist success to describe phenomenon photocatalytic in surface of metal-oxide semiconductor. Firstly, have been issued by Renz in 1921 until 1960, and not responding by scientist. Photocatalytic semiconductor popularity increase since publication Akira Fujishima in Nature magazine was issued in 1972. He was reported decomposition water be oxygen and hydrogen used single crystal TiO2 with input UV light in low energy.

First research, TiO2 have been used as photocatalytic suspension system. Nowadays, the uses TiO2 as photocatalytic is used in thin plate shape, which is immobilization TiO2 to many kinds of supported material like fiber, glass, silica, and titanium plat.

Lorenzo´s Yamaha M1

Jorge Lorenzo´s Yamaha M1 from the 2008 season was the star of the show in Greece last week, taking pride of place in the Athens ‘Motograndprix & Racing´ exhibition held at the Mall.

Over 800,000 visitors had the chance to get up close with the Fiat Yamaha machine, as well as a Ducati Desmosedici and a range of a further 20 bikes, as part of the 18 day show.

Trial riders and young minimoto talents also took part in demonstration exercises at the now-concluded Athens Racing Show event, one of the most popular of its kind in the country.

Lorenzo himself has been busy in recent weeks with various charity events, as well as participating in last weekend´s Monza Rally in his four wheel debut and picking a new racing number for 2009.

Rossi Runner-up in Monza Rally

Rossi finishes runner-up in Monza Rally

Monday, 17 November 2008

Italian places second in both overall classification and Master Stage of weekend event.

Valentino Rossi in Monza Rally

2008 MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi was for once a runner-up this past weekend, taking second place in the annual Monza Rally event. Behind the wheel of a Ford Focus and ably assisted by regular navigator Carlo Cassina, the Italian lost out to the combination of Rinaldo Capello and Luigi Pirollo in the star-studded car contest.

Rossi and Cassina also took the second spot in the `Master Show´ special stage, losing to Piero Longhi and Luca Cassol in the head-to-head final.

The MotoGP titlist was by far the most successful two-wheel competitor to take part in the event, with 250cc World Champion Marco Simoncelli the second highest placing in 27th. Taking to the track after a season in the Fiat Yamaha garage, Roberto and Davide Brivio were just behind Simoncelli.

Rossi´s regular teammate Jorge Lorenzo made his rally debut alongside his own Team Manager, Daniele Romagnoli. Contrary to his expectations of a low placing, Lorenzo came home a respectable 38th, using a Fiat Punto adorned with his soon-to-be-retired number 48.

Alex de Angelis rounded off the list of MotoGP riders making an appearance, finishing 41st.

Besides being an entertaining diversion for Rossi, the Monza Rally also served as preparation for his participation in the Rally GB stage of the World Rally Championship, which takes place on the 4th-7th of December. Before that, the six-time MotoGP World Champion has tests with Ferrari and a return to his day job at the end of the month.

Doctors transplant windpipe with stem cells

Doctors transplant windpipe with stem cells

In this image released by the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona on Tuesday, Nov. 18, AP – In this image released by the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, a patient's collapsed …

LONDON – Doctors have given a woman a new windpipe with tissue grown from her own stem cells, eliminating the need for anti-rejection drugs. "This technique has great promise," said Dr. Eric Genden, who did a similar transplant in 2005 at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. That operation used both donor and recipient tissue. Only a handful of windpipe, or trachea, transplants have ever been done.

If successful, the procedure could become a new standard of treatment, said Genden, who was not involved in the research.

The results were published online Wednesday in the medical journal, The Lancet.

The transplant was given to Claudia Castillo, a 30-year-old Colombian mother of two living in Barcelona, suffered from tuberculosis for years. After a severe collapse of her left lung in March, Castillo needed regular hospital visits to clear her airways and was unable to take care of her children.

Doctors initially thought the only solution was to remove the entire left lung. But Dr. Paolo Macchiarini, head of thoracic surgery at Barcelona's Hospital Clinic, proposed a windpipe transplant instead.

Once doctors had a donor windpipe, scientists at Italy's University of Padua stripped off all its cells, leaving only a tube of connective tissue.

Lewis Hamilton, who drives for McLaren, was able to hold on to take the F1 Driver's Championship. He had a seven point lead in the season standings entering the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso came second while his Renault team mate Nelson Piquet Jr. slipped in the Senna's S-curve and broke his car's rear due to the wet track.

Massa's teammate Kimi Räikkönen came third.

On the final lap, Sebastian Vettel passed Lewis Hamilton, with help from the lapped Kubica, seemingly taking the championship chance from the McLaren driver.

However, in the short straight before the final corner "Juncao",Timo Glock lost traction due to being on dry weather tyres in the wet conditions and lost his position to Vettel. Hamilton also passed him to win the Drivers' championship of the 2008 Formula One season.

Massa missed out on the season title by just one point. Ferrari maintained the lead over McLaren to win the F1 Constructors' Championship.
